Merge Faces Of STL ?

Posted by Marco at November 07. 2015

Hi,

STL's are made by triangular faces. So, if you import STL's you might get unnecessary edges(see picture). After building a solid and meshing it, unfortunatelly the meshed elements obey these edges.

Is there a way to ignore these edges in meshing, or merging the faces before meshing, or simply do anything to get rid of these edges in meshing?

Thanks for your help!

Hi

You can remove some edges in Geometry module.

If your model consist of triangulated planar surfaces, Repair > Remove Extra Edges can join some triangles into larger planar faces.

Hi St. Michael,

thanks for the reply!

I've checked this tool out befor. Sadly, having more complex geometries or spheric surfaces, it doesn't do the trick; but even with the simple example of the box, it doesn't remove these edges and I've still got these unwanted edges in meshing.
