Salome for Ubuntu ?
-
Hi,
Is there any plans for releasing the Ubuntu port
of Salome ?
The 500MB of the disk space seems to be quite
a lot compared to some other environments
of this sort. What is the main reason for Salome
to be so heavy ?
Regards,
Tomek-

Dear Tomek
I'm using Salome on Ubuntu, by installing the Debian version. It works fine for me.
Regards,
Andriy-
Please, how i start salome?
I make one folder in /opt , named salome (/opt/salome) in install wizard, i aponted for this folder.
When i run /opt/salome/KERNEL_3.2.6/bin/salome/runSalome, terminal returns:
python: can't open file '/bin/salome/runSalome.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory
please help-me-
You say you made a directory for salome wizard. But have you actually run the wizard and installed salome?
If you have installed everything, you should first go to /opt/salome/KERNEL_3.2.6/ and run sh salome.sh
in order to initiate the system variables. Then you can do what you actually did, running the run_salome script in KERNEL/bin/salome.
Good luck,
Andriy

I use (K/X)Ubuntu normally, but for FEA I set up a dedicated machine using CAELinux (PCLinuxOS with KDE) and that works well. I just move files between the two machines via ethernet on the local network. That way my other work is not tied up when doing an FEA run. Cost for the FEA machine was low - I refurbished a scrapped out pc that "was too slow on Windows" for the previous owner - added some ram from ebay and the system runs great. A KVM switch box allows me to share input/output devices and keep clutter down in my office.
