Dear Salome users,
A Salome 5.1.2 version for tests on windows is available ...
Before use it, please note that, on the contrary of linux versions,
this one has not been extensively tested and qualified.
You can experience limitations, bugs and even crash (of the
application, not of windows !) ...
Some already known problems are described at
http://sites.google.com/site/wikisalomeplatform/Home/salome-windows/salome-windows-errata
If you find some reproducibles bugs, feel free to contribute to
this page or submit them to the forum (you can prefix your
subjects with [salomewindows])
This version has been tested and seems to work on windows XP SP2,
windows seven rc (32 and 64 bits). If someone can give informations on
vista, it will be appreciated ...
You can download the file Salome5.1.2_ForTestsOnWindows_release_full.zip
at http://files.salome-platform.org/cea/adam/salomewindows/download
To extract it, please use 7zip (or another tool) but not the native windows
extractor which is too slow.
Then read the README.txt file !
Hoping this version will be useful to someone !
Every feedback is welcome and will be checked in details.
Best regards,
E.A.

great work. But I have a question. Why you deside make salome 5.1.2 on Win. As I know Salome 5.1.2 incompatible with Code-Aster 9.1 on windows.) Or may be I mistaken.

Dear Community of Windows-Testers,
until the last launch of Salome-Windows on my portable (Windows XP SP2) everything worked fine. The only thing I am conscious about what has changed is that I installed Skype in between two launches of Salome. After that the naming service of omniORB behaved very strange....
See the output on stdout of the command.com:

This portable is a computer of my employer. I have very small administrative rights. Nevertheless installing and launching worked until now perfectly just from user space. As can be seen: Failed to narrow the root naming context is causing the problem. I found similar problems for launching problems by other users in Ubuntu, please see look at Google to find those issues in your preferred language by these keywords: "failed to narrow the root naming context" salomeThe filtered solution should be:
What you need to do is to edit the /etc/hosts file.
First. Go to terminal and type hostname.
and use gedit /etc/hosts and add a line say
127.0.0.1 yourhostname
But how to do this in Windows with my strictly limited administration rights? Why this has changed in between two launches? No administrator has checked the portable in between! Does anybody got similar results already since this test version is available?
Does anyone can help me?
Thanks in advance,
Thore (wilmfone)

Dear Windows-Tester,
I was right with Skype. Any confusing between Salome and Skype disturb the naming service. Simple restart and shtudown of Skype helped. Thus there are only a few words to say to the developers: thanks a lot for this comfort of providing such a great tool on both worlds linux and windows....

I also have the problem with the "Failed to narrow the root ..." issue. However, I don't have skype installed at all. I am trying to run it on WinXP Tablet PC edition 2005, ver 2002 SP3. Is there any information that I could forward from my system to assist in solving this issue. I run the Salome edition on my Desktop that has all the same SW installed and it runs just fine on my Desktop.
Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob, If you can achieve some tests for me, it is great !
Could you test first if naming service can start ?
To achieve that, go to utils dir and start salome_cmd then :mkdir "%HOME%\env_2810"
del "%HOME%\env_2810\*"
omniNames -start 2810 -logdir "%HOME%\env_2810"Could you give the result of the last command ?

Dear All,
Thank you for this great software.
The windows version is really interesting. But I have problems when I try to execute the "extrusion along Path and meshing" example. Salome crashes as I select the previous command.
My OS is Windows Vista Busines Edition in a Intel Core2Duo plataform with Intel GMA (Q33).

mEHga

Once again,
I tried to test the previous example in another machine (AMD Athlon x2 64 5000 + nvidia geforce 8500 gt with latest driver) and have also the same problem. So I think this issue does not depend on hardware.
In both hardware, the extrusion comand (not "extrusion along a path") works well.

Hi,
I've created two intersecting cylinders in 5.1.2 (windows version). After saving the file and opening next day the geometry module lists all operations performed to create those solids but there's nothing in the viewport. I've tried to replot by "show", "show only", wireframe and shading which resulted the same
I'm working under Vista Business x64 sp2 with core2quad, nVidia Quadro Fx1700.
Have anyone of You experienced this problem?

Hi all,
there is a bug with the example scripts "Creation of a Pipe". Did anyone fix already this problem?
This function is really necessary for me.
I tested shortly the location of the break. It was found in the geompy.MakePipe object.
Kindly regards,
Thore

Hello Thore,
You are right, there is an issue in this example, but it is not specific to the windows version.
In the tutorial, the ext and int shells of the pipe are given with the following command :
pipe_ext_shell_temp = geompy.MakePipeWithDifferentSections( ... )
But since 5.1.2, this command returns a compound and not a shell. Thus you have to type the following commands instead of the one above to get a real shell and to build the pipe:
pipe_ext_compound_temp = geompy.MakePipeWithDifferentSections([Circle_1_ext,Circle_2_ext, Circle_3_ext, Ellipse_4_ext], [Vertex_1, Vertex_2, Vertex_3,Vertex_5], Wire_1, theWithContact=0,theWithCorrection=0)
pipe_ext_shell_temp = geompy.SubShapeAll(pipe_ext_compound_temp,geompy.ShapeType['SHELL'])[0]
geompy.addToStudy(pipe_ext_shell_temp,"pipe_ext_shell_temp")Same principle for the pipe_int_shell_temp object.
Hope this will help.
Regards,
Gilles

When I deel two volumes with "fuse", it doesn't work. But if I deel these two volume s with "commom", it's OK. So, maybe there is something wrong on the function of "fuse".

On tests I've done, Fuse works. Could you attach the two brep to check if the problem can be reproduced ? Thanks, E.A.

I loaded an old case created on Celinux 2008 and updated on Salome 4.1.4 on linux too, and I experienced these first problems:
1) Geometry: the system is unable to show existing geometry. It shows only brand-new created geometries.
2) Mesh module: system crashes immediately at the moment when I switch to the mesh module if the mesh already exists from the old caelinux hdf file, may be the problem is in the different "end-of-line" carachter?:
"This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information."
It works if I switch to the mesh module on a new case with mesh not existing yet.
3) Post-processor module: the system is unable to show presentation of fields that are already present in the case. But is is able to import the old resu.med file (the mesh resulting from the code-aster calculation) and to create new presentation.-

As written in errata page, save/restore studies is broken in windows version.
You can try to open the hdf file in Salome 4.1.4 on linux, dump the study as
python file and then load the python file into windows version. Maybe it
works or not ... tell us the result.

Hi Arnold,
It is a bug ... I will indicate in the erratta and try to fix it asap !
If you are creating geometrical groups in order to create the corresponding
parts of the mesh, you can, as an alternative, explode the main geom object
(in faces for instance) and after create group directly in SMESH and select
the faces you would have taken to create the geometrical group ... Humm, I
don't know if I'm very clear !Thanks,
