I tried to run the installation wizard on gentoo no error reported. I set environment and tried to start SALOME with runSalome I had the following error, anybody can help me? Thank you Roberto Searching for a free port for naming service: 2810 - Ok Traceback (most recent call last): File "/home/babar/salome/KERNEL_2.2.8/bin/salome/runSalome.py", line 761, in ? clt, args = main() File "/home/babar/salome/KERNEL_2.2.8/bin/salome/runSalome.py", line 751, in main args, modules_list, modules_root_dir = get_config() File "/home/babar/salome/KERNEL_2.2.8/bin/salome/runSalome.py", line 45, in get_config import launchConfigureParser File "/home/babar/salome/KERNEL_2.2.8/bin/salome/launchConfigureParser.py", line 98, in ? import Utils_Identity File "/home/babar/salome/KERNEL_2.2.8/bin/salome/Utils_Identity.py", line 33, in ? import socket File "/home/babar/salome/Python-2.2.1/lib/python2.2/socket.py", line 41, in ? from _socket import * ImportError: libssl.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

      Hi Roberto,

Try to find where is libssl on your system (/usr/lib or /lib).
For instance, on mandrake 10.1 :

      [adam@is124679 /home/adam]> ls -l /usr/lib/libssl*
      -rwxr-xr-x  1 root root 131176 oct  8  2004 /usr/lib/libssl3.so
      lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root     15 jan  3 15:16 /usr/lib/libssl.so -> libssl.so.0.9.7
      -rwxr-xr-x  1 root root 198640 jun 19  2004 /usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.7
      [adam@is124679 /home/adam]>

Then, go into $KERNEL_ROOT_DIR/lib/salome (or into a
directory which is in your LD_LIBRARY_PATH) and create
a symbolic link for the system libssl to libssl.so.2

For instance, on mandrake 10.1 :
      [adam@is124679 /home/adam]> source /data/tmplgls/adam/Salome2/V2_2_7_MDK10.1_OCC/env_products.csh
      [adam@is124679 /home/adam]> cd $KERNEL_ROOT_DIR/lib/salome/
      [adam@is124679 ...V2_2_7_MDK10.1_OCC/KERNEL_2.2.7/lib/salome]> ln -s /usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.7 libssl.so.2

CAUTION : You have to do the same thing with libcrypto ...

      [adam@is124679 ...V2_2_7_MDK10.1_OCC/KERNEL_2.2.7/lib/salome]> ln -s /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.7 libcrypto.so.2
      [adam@is124679 ...V2_2_7_MDK10.1_OCC/KERNEL_2.2.7/lib/salome]>

And, it should work ... Tell us if it's ok for others gentoo users

      Cheers,

                       E.A.

Hi Adam Thanks for the quick answer! The simbolic link worked, exactly the same have to be done with libcrypto. Much more near! Now the salome gui starts to load but remain locked on "Checking naming service" Please see following the shell output Thanks again Roberto babar@tollinux ~/salome/KERNEL_2.2.8/bin/salome $ runSalome Searching for a free port for naming service: 2810 - Ok source= [] opts= {} args= {u'portkill': 1, 'file': 0, u'killall': 0, 'embedded': [u'registry', u'study', u'moduleCatalog', u'cppContainer'], 'standalone': [u'pyContainer', u'supervContainer'], 'appname': 'salome', 'modules': ['GEOM', 'SMESH', 'VISU', 'SUPERV', 'MED', 'COMPONENT', 'PYCALCULATOR', 'DATA'], u'gui': 1, u'xterm': 0, 'SMESH_plugins': [u'NETGENPlugin', u'GHS3DPlugin'], 'key': [], u'logger': 0, 'interp': 0, 'port': 2810, 'containers': []} le fichier /home/babar/babar_tollinux_2810_SALOME_pidict des process SALOME n'est pas accessible startSalome {u'portkill': 1, 'file': 0, u'killall': 0, 'embedded': [u'registry', u'study', u'moduleCatalog', u'cppContainer'], 'standalone': [u'pyContainer', u'supervContainer', 'superv'], 'appname': 'salome', 'modules': ['GEOM', 'SMESH', 'VISU', 'SUPERV', 'MED', 'COMPONENT', 'PYCALCULATOR', 'DATA'], u'gui': 1, u'xterm': 0, 'SMESH_plugins': [u'NETGENPlugin', u'GHS3DPlugin'], 'key': [], u'logger': 0, 'interp': 0, 'port': 2810, 'containers': []} ['SALOME_Session_Loader', 'CPP', 'PY', 'SUPERV', 'GUI'] Lancement du Naming Service runNS.sh > /tmp/logs/babar/salomeNS.log 2>&1 Searching Naming Service ++++++++++Failed to narrow the root naming context Traceback (most recent call last): File "/home/babar/salome/KERNEL_2.2.8/bin/salome/runSalome.py", line 670, in useSalome clt = startSalome(args, modules_list, modules_root_dir) File "/home/babar/salome/KERNEL_2.2.8/bin/salome/runSalome.py", line 493, in startSalome clt=orbmodule.client() File "/home/babar/salome/KERNEL_2.2.8/bin/salome/orbmodule.py", line 40, in __init__ self.initNS() File "/home/babar/salome/KERNEL_2.2.8/bin/salome/orbmodule.py", line 73, in initNS sys.exit(1) SystemExit: 1 --- erreur au lancement Salome --- Saving of the dictionary of Salome processes in /home/babar/babar_tollinux_2810_SALOME_pidict To kill SALOME processes from a console (kill all sessions from all ports): python killSalome.py To kill SALOME from the present interpreter, if it is not closed : killLocalPort() --> kill this session (use CORBA port from args of runSalome) givenPortKill(port) --> kill a specific session with given CORBA port killAllPorts() --> kill all sessions runSalome, with --killall option, starts with killing the processes resulting from the previous execution.
