Install Salome 9.2.0 on Unbuntu 18.04

Posted by Mike Campbell at February 07. 2019
I'm well experienced with DOS and Windows but am new to Linux. I have Unbuntu installed under VirtualBox and Salome extracted within Unbuntu but can't find the installation wizard. Where do I find it and how do I execute it?

Hi Mike,

the prescription for linux archives can be found here:

https://www.salome-platform.org/downloads/current-version

Basically, once you've downloaded the archive, you need to extract the application with:

tar zvxf SALOME-9.2.0-UB18.04-SRC.tgz

then you can run SALOME, with:

 cd SALOME-9.2.0-UB18.04

./salome

HTH, nabil.

Thank you for your reply. Please forgive my naivete. I see there's no wizard in this version. At this point I can't quite get Salome to start. I get this mess of errors... mike@mike-VirtualBox:~/Salome$ ./salome runSalome running on mike-VirtualBox INFO:MainThread:/home/mike/Salome/BINARIES-UB18.04/KERNEL/bin/salome/PortManager.py[151]Problem loading PortManager file: /tmp/.salome_PortManager.cfg INFO:PortManager:Problem loading PortManager file: /tmp/.salome_PortManager.cfg Error when trying to access active network connections. I'm not sure why the carriage returns were ommitted in my first attempt at posting this. I don't find a preview option. I'll try again but it doesn't appear it will work any differently. Sorry. mike@mike-VirtualBox:~/Salome$ ./salome runSalome running on mike-VirtualBox INFO:MainThread:/home/mike/Salome/BINARIES-UB18.04/KERNEL/bin/salome/PortManager.py[151]Problem loading PortManager file: /tmp/.salome_PortManager.cfg INFO:PortManager:Problem loading PortManager file: /tmp/.salome_PortManager.cfg Error when trying to access active network connections. Hi Mike,

From the message log, there are two errors:

- netstat is missing. You can install it with:

sudo apt-get install net-tools

- libOpenGL.so.0 is missing. To fix it, either install VirtualBox additions, or launch ./mesa_salome instead of ./salome

Christophe

I know it sounds weird but I've always had issues with ubuntu binaries, and I've always installed Salome from universal linux binaries, which always delivered without issues. Worth a try !

I believe I did as you instructed but now I get this: toolman@toolman-VirtualBox:~/Downloads/SALOME-9.2.0-UB18.04-SRC$ ./salome runSalome running on toolman-VirtualBox Searching for a free port for naming service: 2815 - OK Searching Naming Service + found in 0.1 seconds SALOME_Session_Server: error while loading shared libraries: libOpenGL.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Warning, no type found for resource "localhost", using default value "single_machine" Traceback (most recent call last): File "/home/toolman/Downloads/SALOME-9.2.0-UB18.04-SRC/BINARIES-UB18.04/KERNEL/bin/salome/orbmodule.py", line 172, in waitNSPID os.kill(thePID,0) ProcessLookupError: [Errno 3] No such process During handling of the above exception, another exception occurred: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/home/toolman/Downloads/SALOME-9.2.0-UB18.04-SRC/BINARIES-UB18.04/KERNEL/bin/salome/runSalome.py", line 633, in useSalome clt = startSalome(args, modules_list, modules_root_dir) File "/home/toolman/Downloads/SALOME-9.2.0-UB18.04-SRC/BINARIES-UB18.04/KERNEL/bin/salome/runSalome.py", line 578, in startSalome session=clt.waitNSPID("/Kernel/Session",mySessionServ.PID,SALOME.Session) File "/home/toolman/Downloads/SALOME-9.2.0-UB18.04-SRC/BINARIES-UB18.04/KERNEL/bin/salome/orbmodule.py", line 174, in waitNSPID raise RuntimeError("Process %d for %s not found" % (thePID,theName)) RuntimeError: Process 32701 for /Kernel/Session not found Searching /Kernel/Session in Naming Service --- Error during Salome launch ---
