19 February 2018 - SALOME version 8.4.0

CEA/DEN, EDF R&D and OPEN CASCADE are pleased to announce SALOME version 8.4.0. It is a public release that contains the results of planned major and minor improvements and bug fixes against SALOME version 8.3.0 released in September 2017.

This release of SALOME platform introduces a lot of new new features and improvements:
  • GMSH plugin module
    • GMSH has been reintroduced as a plugin of SMESH (it was available in SALOME 7.8, and was removed in SALOME for compatibility reasons)
  • MEDCoupling
    • Introduction of new types of fields
    • Introduction of new type of element
  • Mesh module
    • Possibility to write MED files in a lower minor version of MED file format
    • Introduction of new type of element
  • ParaVis module
    • Using the multi-server mode of ParaView
    • Using the the built-in server of ParaView
    • Introduction management of float32
    • Sharing server description file

SALOME 8.4.0 supports the following platforms (64-bits architecture only):

  • Linux Debian 8
  • Linux CentOS 6 and 7
  • Linux Fedora 20, 22, 24 and 26
  • Linux Ubuntu LTS 14.04 and 16.04
Pre-compiled binaries of SALOME 8.4.0 for supported platforms, as well as universal binaries for Linux, can be retrieved from the download page of the site.

Note that SALOME version 8.4.0 is based on a patched version of Open CASCADE Technology 7.2.0.
